The Ministry of Agriculture, Sri Lanka‘s Agriculture Sector Modernization Project partnered with the United Nations Development Organisation (UNIDO)’s BESPA-Food project, to enable rural farmer communities to access technical support to enhance the agro-food sector value chain.
The initiative was the first step in the Agriculture Sector Modernisation Project Sri Lanka‘s long-term vision to enable its farmer community organizations formally established as Public Unlisted Companies (PUC), to access all knowledge products generated from the European Union in Sri Lanka and the Maldives and World Bank Sri Lanka funded agriculture projects in Sri Lanka.
“When projects are similar, the EU always expects and encourages our partners to build synergies. Working collaboratively is crucial for avoiding unnecessary redundancy, achieving more impact, and delivering better results for the communities, we serve,” said the Head of Cooperation of the European Union Delegation to Sri Lanka & Maldives, Dr Johann HESSE. “It is also critical to guarantee that every euro (or dollar) is spent wisely and productively.”
